NI Water has announced that a major \u00a31.8m investment to upgrade Ballyvoy Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) in the county Antrim village is now complete.<\/p>\n
The project was carried out by Farrans TES and involved the design, construction, testing and commissioning of an upgraded Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) within the boundaries of the existing Ballyvoy WwTW site.<\/p>\n
The upgraded wastewater treatment works will improve wastewater services for customers in the area and enhance river water quality in this scenic village on the doorstep of the Glens of Antrim. The upgrade will help NI Water meet EU water quality and Northern Ireland Environment Agency standards, and will accommodate current and future population growth in the area.<\/p>\n
John Griffin, Senior Project Manager with NI Water said: \u201cNI Water is delighted to announce the recent completion of this wastewater scheme.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur services have never been more essential to the health and wellbeing of the public than now, and this scheme will benefit customers in the village of Ballyvoy.<\/p>\n

Hopefully the local community will see the benefits for many years to come, as the scheme will improve wastewater services in the area and lead to environmental improvements including improved water quality in the River Carey.\u201d<\/p>\n
Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon added:\u00a0\u201cI am pleased to see this \u00a31.8 million investment completed at Ballyvoy Wastewater Treatment which will deliver an upgraded treatment works for people living and working in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cContinued investment in the water and wastewater services throughout Northern Ireland is essential to improving this critical infrastructure which has become even more vital in the past year in protecting public health.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese important works will improve the environment and the lives of citizens in the area as well as supporting economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
The contractor for this major investment was Dunmurry-based Farrans Construction working in partnership with TES and Belfast-based RPS.<\/p>\n
